James Matthew Barrie was a famous Scottish novelist and playwright. Barrie was best known for his book Peter Pan, he sold over one million copies worldwide. Barrie’s older brother David inspired him to write Peter Pan. David died ice-skating the day before his 14th birthday. Barrie tried to make his mother mistake him for his brother by wearing his clothes and acting like him. Barrie only got to be five feet tall, which was also an idea for the making of Peter Pan. Growing up, Barrie had difficulty leaving his childlike ways and tried hard not to grow up, similar to Peter Pan. Peter Pan was more than just a boy who didn’t want to grow up to Barrie. Peter Pan was inspired by many people in his life including himself. Peter Pan meant way more to Barrie than we realize. Barrie had to go through a lot to make Peter Pan. He went through his brother dying, being very short his whole life, and not wanting to grow up.
We have all watched, read, or heard stories about Peter Pan, but do you know where the name Peter came from? Barrie was very close to Peter Llewelyn Davies and his mother Sylvia. All the Llewelyn boys became an inspiration for the making of Peter Pan. Barrie made a story about the Llewelyn boys called, The Boy Castaways of Black Lake Island. Barrie decided to make Peter Llewelyn Davies the main character in his book Peter Pan. The real Peter didn’t like Barrie comparing and using his name in Peter Pan and got highly upset with Barrie.
Peter Pan was not just a character in the book Peter Pan. Peter Pan first appeared in the book The Little White bird. The Little White Bird was made in 1902 and written by J.M. Barrie. Peter was not the primary person in this book. At only seven days old, Peter flew out to meet fairies. In this book, all the children were birds before they started out. Peter was able to fly because he had never grown up, not even in his younger days. When Peter flew out the window, he went past Kensington Gardens and onto Peter Pan’s island. Upon finding the reader’s hopes written in a boat shape on the island, Peter would read them after dark.
Is the movie version of Peter Pan better or worse than J.M. Barrie’s version? The movie Peter Pan is based on the book so they take things away and add some things to it. The book by J.M Barrie is about the original thoughts and the original story, so you really can’t beat that because, J.M. Barrie is the one who created this wonderful story, and no matter how much you add or take away from it, it’s not going to be the same as the original; it’s not going to have that same feeling to it when you watch or read what other people have made of it. The Peter Pan movies are still great movies and more for kids to understand, and that way, you have a visual picture of how other people have interpreted it.

Good essay, I think you should of talked about how Peter Llewelyn Davies was involved in the making of the book more, but still great essay!

This is a fantastic essay. The reader can’t help but feel the connection between the book and its author. The connection feels like it gives the book more meaning. Good work.
