Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Characters

I will talk about the main characters in the book Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. First, I will talk about the most well-known character in this book, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Dr. I will start off by saying that Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are the same person. Dr. Jekyll is a large, well-made man, around fifty years of age. Dr. Jekyll is a kind well respected, intelligent scientist. He is a wealthy man who has his own laboratory which is where he practices making potions. Dr. Jekyll lives with his butler, Poole.

Next, I will talk about Mr. Hyde. On the website BBC.com, It says that Mr. Hyde is an evil, criminal mastermind, and I think that description suits him very well. Mr. Hyde has no respect for anyone. Mr. Hyde has such an ugly deformed face nobody can describe his appearance. If I were to describe Mr. Hyde I would describe him as an ugly, deformed, selfish, murderer. Mr. Hyde’s appearance symbolizes his personality/ethics.

Now I know that the person I just mentioned does not sound by any means like the same man, but they are. I will tell you how, Dr. Jekyll, as I mentioned before has his own laboratory where he practices making potions, he made a potion that turns him into Mr. Hyde, who is basically an ugly, murdering monster. Dr. Jekyll is doing this because he likes to be a criminal sometimes. So that is how and why Dr. Jekyll turns himself into Mr. Hyde.

Now I am going to talk to you about Mr. Utterson. Most of the book is seen from Mr. Utterson’s perspective, but he is also in the story. Mr. Utterson is a lawyer, so naturally, he is a well-respected wealthy man. Mr. Utterson is described as a rugged countenance, that was never lighted by a smile; cold, scanty, and embarrassed in discourse; backward in sentiment; lean, long, dusty, dreary, and yet somehow lovable. Utterson and Dr.Jekyll are loyal friends.

Last I am going to tell you about Poole. Poole is a loyal servant to Dr. Jekyll. Poole worked as a doctor for twenty years. Poole is concerned for his master, so eventually, he is driven to find Utterson’s help when he becomes convinced that something has happened to Dr. Jekyll.

Why does Dr. Jekyll want to be Mr. Hyde?

Dr. Jekyll wants to be Mr. Hyde because Mr. Hyde is not a good person. Like most people, he also wants to be good, but now and then, even the good people want to do something they know isn’t right. It is the same with Dr. Jekyll. He is a good person but he wants to do wrong also.

Dr. Jekyll wants to do bad things without getting caught, so he turns into Mr. Hyde when he is tempted to do wrong. Dr. Jekyll is using potions to become Mr. Hyde and it’s working very well for him because everyone believes that Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are two different people. Everybody says that Dr. Jekyll is such a nice guy, which would be true because when Dr. Jekyll is himself and not Mr. Hyde he is a nice person. I am sure Dr. Jekyll wants to do bad things sometimes, while still trying to be a good person, but he knows that he’ll get caught if he just stays as Mr. Hyde. 

In this book, and in Lord of the Rings, there is one thing that stood out to me as similar. Dr. Jekyll turns into Mr. Hyde because he is tempted to do crime. Its sort of like Mr. Hyde is taking over Dr. Jekyll, the more and more Dr. Jekyll uses the potions to turn into Mr. Hyde the more tempted Dr. Jekyll is to keep turning himself into Hyde. This book is similar to a part of Lord of the Rings, Bilbo and the ring are similar to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The more and more Bilbo puts the ring on the more and more it takes him over, and the more he wants to be angry or mean.

Lord of the Rings will be a classic.

Lord of the Rings will be a classic because it is such a popular movie, it has such a great plot to it and it keeps you interested throughout the whole movie. In a lot of trilogy movies, you can predict what is going to happen next, and in most movies, the main characters almost never die, but in Lord of the Rings, some main characters die. I like how in Lord of the Rings they have multiple villains they have to stay away from, like Frodo has to stay away from the black riders, as do the rest of the characters but its most harmful to Frodo, they have to stay away from the orks, and Smaug, and Smigol, whom they trust a little bit, but he is still a villain. These are not the only reasons I like Lord of the Rings so much, but it’s just a few of the many reasons why it is such a great movie, and why I think it will become a classic.

Lord of the Rings is a game-changer because, like I said before, they have multiple villains they have to stay away from. In some other movies, they just have one or two villains they have to avoid which is still interesting but it’s a lot cooler when there are more than just one or two. I like how they have some comedy mixed in with the action and adventure. Lord of the Rings is one of my favorite movies because it is so different from other movies. It’s not predictable. It leaves you in suspense after watching every movie. It has so much action you can’t take your eyes off of it. It has more than just fighting the whole time. That is why it’s a game-changer.

Lord of the Rings may have influenced other great works. Some things in Lord of the Rings and in Harry Potter are similar. I do think Harry Potter went off of the movie Lord of the Rings because there are so many things that are alike. Some things that are alike in Lord of the Rings and in Harry Potter are Dumbledore and Gandalf, the evil sorcerers referred to as the dark lord, and the ring and cloak both turn you invisible. Even though both movies are alike they both have their own story, and they are both very great movies. I did read that the Legend of Zelda was inspired by the Lord of the Rings books. Lord of the Rings has also inspired some other video games. This is why I think it has influenced other great works.

Lord of the Rings is definitely respected by experts. Other movies and video games would not be inspired by or use some things out of the movie Lord of the Rings if the movie was not respected by experts. If I were a movie or video game expert, I would most definitely respect the movie Lord of the Rings. I don’t see any reason not to respect a movie like that. Because of the story and the action in it, it’s just a great movie. 

People can relate to the life of some of the characters in that movie, not exactly what they are going through in the movie but if you put their problems in a different way you can sometimes relate to the problems the characters have. I read that this movie is a way for fans to escape from their problems in life, and that is the reason it is so popular and respected by many people including experts.

Lord of the Rings addresses permanent and universal human concerns because a lot of big and important people in this world have read and watched Lord of the Rings and loved it and that is a big sign that it will last for a long time. Like I said before, it is such a popular movie and so many people like it. I think and hope that this movie will still be very popular for years and years. Lord of the Rings, in a way, teaches you to do what is right and make sacrifices in life for what is important. It is a great, fun way to teach about bravery and not to get tempted by things that may bring you power, but to do what you know is right and what will bring others happiness.
